THE TECHNOLOGY
The latest in waterjet technology is Dynamic Waterjet™ with Active Tolerance Control™. It is an advanced motion, 3-D kinematics’ system that tilts the waterjet cutting head similar to a wrist to virtually eliminate taper and significantly improve part tolerance. The advantages dynamic waterjets have over conventional waterjets are: parts are cut 25% – 400% faster and taper is reduced by at least 50% producing higher quality parts that require no secondary finishing.
Waterjets can cut up to 8 inches thick through virtually any material, leaving a satin-smooth edge. There are virtually no limits to what waterjets are capable of cutting. Waterjets require few secondary operations and produce net-shaped parts with no heat-affected zone, heat distortion, or mechanical stresses caused by other cutting methods. They can cut with a narrow kerf, and can provide better use of raw material since parts can be tightly nested.
JOB & MACHINE APPLICATIONS
The unmatched versatility of waterjets helps job and machine shops expand their capabilities beyond what is possible with machining centers, EDM or mills. When using waterjets you can throw out pre-conceived ideas about, what are traditionally considered, “difficult applications”. Although abrasive waterjets are ideally suited for tough, and lucrative applications such as titanium, inconel, brass, tool steel, glass, stone or composites, the most commonly cut materials include aluminum, steel, and plastics. Our abrasive waterjets cut material from 1/16 inch to 8 inches thick and our working envelope is 72″ x 144″. Typical part tolerances range from between 0.003 and 0.005 of an inch. Tolerances as close as 0.001 of an inch can be achieved as well.
